DEPARTMENT OF SMALL GRAINS

The main activity of the Small Grains Department includes the breeding of small grains – the development and improvement of the assortment intended for the domestic and international markets. Breeding is carried out on the following plant species and subspecies of small grains: bread wheat, durum wheat, spelt, triticale, barley, rye and oats; seed production – production, maintenance and processing of varietal seeds of small grains intended for the domestic and international market; protection of small grains – phytopathological, nematological and entomological research in the function of breeding and production of small grains for resistance to diseases and pests; analysis of the technological quality of small grains – conducted at farinological laboratory; small grain cultivation technology – improvement of small grain production technology in order to maximize the use of the genetic potential of varieties for grain yield and quality.
