He was in Israel in 1999 to study growing and keeping vegetables and potatoes, and in Wisconsin, USA in 2009 to study bio-integral plant protection of potato. As a visiting professor he stayed at the Zhangir khan West Kazakhstan Agrarian Technical University in 2012 where he held lectures to postgraduate students regarding potato and vegetables growing technologies in the Russian language.
His research areas and interests include weed control in field crops, fertilization, amelioration of acidic soils, potato growing technology for different purposes introduction of new potato cultivars, cultivation practices based on sustainable agriculture, application of new irrigation solutions for potatoes, and application of aeroponic systems in the production of virus-free mini-tuber potatoes.
Prof. Dr. Zoran Broćić has actively participated in the transfer and application of new technologies in the production process of seed and mercantile potato, especially in hilly mountainous regions of western Serbia. He was actively involved in the creation of the company “Solanum komerc” in Guča established in 1993 which specializes in seed production of potato. Laboratory for tissue culture (micropropagation) was revived, multidisciplinary team was gathered from a large number of experts, first virus-free mini-tuber potato plants were created in vitro, acclimatized and replanted into aeroponic system. This aeroponic system was the original technical solution first applied in Serbia to produce virus-free mini-tuber potato. Studies have shown that aeroponic application has high potential, five to ten times higher than traditional substrate and hydroponic systems. This method could significantly improve our modest know-how in the production of pre-basic seed potato, and maybe even other crops where aeroponic system could be used.
Prof. Dr. Zoran Broćić has held many lectures and practical workshops to the producers aiming at new technology transfer and practical application. In this way, he managed to connect research, professions and practices, which is of great importance for teaching and educating numerous generations of students at the Faculty of Agriculture in Zemun.
